FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, very quiet. Absolutely no noise from the traffic of the inner ring around Ghent.
In the two back bedrooms of the house you only hear birds such as the blackbird, the great tit, the magpie, the sparrow but rarely a pigeon. The trees in the garden are a steadfast home for the blackbird and the sparrows. The song of the blackbird in the morning and evening makes this truly enjoyable. Blackbirds occasionally sit on the ground in the garden. There is a water butt where all these birds come to drink. Beautiful to see from the kitchen. If you stand still, they won't notice.
There is also no nuisance from the back neighbours. It is a very quiet street where relatively few cars drive through.

The people in this neighborhood are generally very friendly. A stone's throw away (really, and you really don't have to be good at throwing) you will find a coffee house/eatery (Kraz) and another eatery (ENTR) and a cultural center (De Centrale) where you can attend workshops, shows, music concerts, etc. but also rent multipurpose spaces, for your organization or privately. The Kongostraat is also known in Ghent for being the home of the VDAB.

In the two back bedrooms you can leave the curtains open without sacrificing privacy. None of the back neighbors can look into these rooms, which is exceptional in a city and especially considering the view of the garden and the sunny south side.

Not at the moment, but it is indeed a great opportunity to turn the two platform roofs into green roofs because they enjoy full southern sun.

The attic is actually the size of the original ground surface and is quite high. You have a surface of 4m by 4.8m which is 2 more high. This means that if you want to make a roof apartment with a roof veranda this is certainly possible and you then have a space of approximately 5.5m by 4.8m and at least 2m high. There are quite a few owners in the area who have also done this. So it is a good idea. Feel free to come and have a look.

The basement is spacious and takes up about the area of the back of the house. You can easily stand upright and this is also where the mains are.

Not at the moment but it is a good idea again as the back of the roof gets full southern sun.

Most of the time we can just park the car right in front of the door. It might be a bit busier on weekends but you will definitely find a parking space across the street or further down the street or just around the corner in Boma Street. A luxury.

To drive to the E40 from this place of residence via the roundabout on the Dampoort and the Afrikalaan, it takes 9 minutes on Sundays and the distance is 4.8 km. During a weekday, for example at 08:00, it is normally 8-14 minutes. The alternative route via the Muide is about the same time but shorter, barely 4.2 km.
